Who it is forA self-employed person or investor with income that is not fully covered by employer TDS, who must pay advance tax for FY 2026-27.

The problemAdvance tax has cumulative targets and dates, and working out what is still owed after TDS and earlier payments is easy to get wrong.

The outcomeA payment plan that shows how much to pay next and by when, based on your as-of date, expected income, expected TDS, and receipts for advance tax already paid.

What you need first

  • Python 3 installed, to run the bundled scripts and the self-test
  • git, to clone the repo and review the files before installing
  • An AI agent that the README names: Claude Code, Codex, or Gemini
  • Your Form 16 and AIS (JSON) for the income year you are filing
  • Time to review the output and to pay, submit, and e-verify on the income tax portal yourself

Steps

  1. git clone https://github.com/karanb192/itr-wala.git
  2. cd itr-wala && ./install.sh
  3. python3 skills/itr-wala/scripts/validate_income.py skills/itr-wala/assets/example-advance-fy2026-27.json
  4. python3 skills/itr-wala/scripts/tax_engine.py skills/itr-wala/assets/example-advance-fy2026-27.json
  5. Open your agent and say "Plan my advance tax for FY 2026-27", then give it your as-of date, expected income, expected TDS, and receipts.

Prompt for your agent

In the itr-wala repo at <repo-path>, run the advance-tax validator and engine on a FY 2026-27 income file for <your-income-file>. Expected output: the amount to pay next and its due date, with late fees and interest excluded from the target; verify the validator accepts the file and that no future payment is counted as already paid.

Caveat. The FY 2026-27 return forms and portal fields still need verification, so the tool only covers advance-tax targets for that year, and you approve every estimate yourself.
