Who it is forA developer who keeps a hand-written tool-reuse skill for their agent and is tired of it going stale.
The problemA hand-maintained index rots as soon as a skill is added or changed upstream.
The outcomeA generated INDEX.md and inventory.json you can commit, or place in a tool-reuse skill for the agent to read.
What you need first
- Python 3.11 or newer
- Local SKILL.md skill folders for Codex, Claude Code or other supported agents
- pipx or pip to install the agent-skill-sync package
Steps
- Install the CLI with
pipx install agent-skill-sync. - Run
skillsync index --out ./output --lang zhto write INDEX.md and inventory.json. - Open the generated INDEX.md and check that each skill shows its category and the reason for it.
- Schedule the same index command on a timer or a git hook so the file stays current.
Prompt for your agent
Use the agent-skill-sync repo to regenerate the skill index. Run `skillsync index --out <output-dir> --lang zh` and confirm that INDEX.md and inventory.json were written. Expected output: two files in <output-dir>. Verify that inventory.json lists the same skills that `skillsync scan` shows.
Caveat. The index only reflects the source roots the tool can find, so add custom roots in skillsync.toml if your skills live elsewhere.
