Who it is forA developer moving skills from Codex or Claude Code into WorkBuddy who wants no surprises or deleted files.
The problemCopying skill folders by hand risks overwriting newer copies or pulling in secrets and large virtualenvs.
The outcomeA reviewed plan, then a copy of only the A (and optionally B) skills into the target root, with old drifted copies backed up.
What you need first
- Python 3.11 or newer
- Local SKILL.md skill folders for Codex, Claude Code or other supported agents
- pipx or pip to install the agent-skill-sync package
Steps
- Install the CLI with
pipx install agent-skill-sync. - Run
skillsync sync --dry-runand read the exact plan it prints. - Run
skillsync sync --categories Ato copy only portable skills. - If you want to update drifted copies, run
skillsync sync --categories A,B --force, which backs up the old copy first.
Prompt for your agent
Use the agent-skill-sync repo to sync portable skills into the target root. Run `skillsync sync --dry-run` first, then `skillsync sync --categories A` once the plan looks right. Expected output: a list of copied skills and no deleted files. Verify that `skillsync scan` now shows those skills as identical to the target.
Caveat. Forced updates move the old copy into a backup folder rather than deleting it, but you still need to check the dry-run plan before running with --force.
