How to chat with an LLM API from one browser page with Chat UI

Run a full LLM chat session from two local files with no install and no dependencies.

Who it is forA developer who has an LLM API endpoint and wants a quick chat interface on a laptop without setting up a web framework.

The problemSetting up a full chat app just to talk to one API takes time and adds dependencies to maintain.

The outcomeA working chat page in the browser that sends messages to the configured LLM API and shows the replies.

What you need first

  • A web browser
  • The main HTML file and the configuration file from the Chat_UI repository
  • Access to an LLM API endpoint and the settings it needs, as named in the configuration file

Steps

  1. Download the main HTML file and the configuration file from the Chat UI repository.
  2. Open the configuration file and fill in the settings, following the parameter names written inside it.
  3. Open the main HTML file in a web browser.
  4. Load the configuration file in the page.
  5. Type a message and send it to start chatting.

Prompt for your agent

Using the Chat_UI repository at KODAMA-TECHNOLOGY/Chat_UI, download the main HTML file and the configuration file, fill in the configuration for <api-endpoint>, then open the HTML file and load the configuration. Report that the chat page loads and that one test message receives a reply from <api-endpoint>.

Caveat. The README does not list supported providers or setup steps beyond the configuration file, so confirm your API format is covered by the parameter names inside that file.
