How to tune LLM generation parameters in a simple chat client with Chat UI

Adjust nearly all model parameters in one place and test how replies change.

Who it is forA prompt engineer or developer who needs to see how generation settings change an LLM's answers during testing.

The problemChanging parameters in code and rerunning scripts is slow when you want to compare outputs quickly.

The outcomeA tested set of parameter values, with the chat session results recorded through the export button.

What you need first

  • A web browser
  • The main HTML file and the configuration file from the Chat_UI repository
  • Access to an LLM API endpoint and the settings it needs, as named in the configuration file

Steps

  1. Download the main HTML file and the configuration file.
  2. Set the starting parameter values in the configuration file, using the parameter names written inside it.
  3. Open the main HTML file and load the configuration.
  4. Send the same test prompt, then change one parameter at a time in the page and send it again.
  5. Click the export button to save the conversation for comparison.

Prompt for your agent

Using the Chat_UI repository at KODAMA-TECHNOLOGY/Chat_UI, set up the configuration for <api-endpoint>, send the test prompt <test-prompt> at two parameter settings, and export the history. Report the two replies and the exported file name, and verify that both replies appear in the exported history.

Caveat. The README says almost all parameters can be adjusted but does not list them, so check the configuration file for which ones your API supports.
