Who it is forA developer or writer who types long messages, prompts or notes and wants to speak them instead.
The problemTyping long prompts, commit messages or emails takes time, and most dictation tools cost money or send audio to a server.
The outcomeSpoken words are pasted into the active app, and with Parakeet they are transcribed on the Mac without leaving the machine.
What you need first
- A Mac, since the notch app and most features are macOS only
- Download the Coucou app from the releases page linked in the README
- An AI coding agent such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or Gemini CLI
- Your own API keys for any cloud provider you plan to use, stored in the macOS Keychain
- An iPhone with the Coucou iPhone app, only for the phone features
Steps
- Open the Coucou Mac app and go to Flow dictation.
- Pick the key to hold, such as right ⌥, fn, right ⌘ or right ⌃.
- Click one-time download for Parakeet if you want offline recognition on Apple silicon.
- Click into any text field, hold the key, speak, then let go.
- Use ⌃⌘V to paste the last dictation again if needed.
Prompt for your agent
Using the Louis-CFM/coucou repo, enable Flow dictation in the Coucou Mac app and set it to use Parakeet on <target Mac>. Expected output: a short spoken sentence is pasted into a text field in another app. Verify that the clipboard contents from before the dictation are restored afterwards.
Caveat. Flow dictation and the Notetaker are Mac only for now, and Parakeet needs about 650 MB and an Apple silicon Mac.
