Anthropic and the US government expanded their OneGov deal with a 40% Claude discount

Anthropic and the US General Services Administration announced an expanded OneGov agreement on October 27, 2026. Government buyers get a 40% discount on Claude Enterprise, Claude for Government and the Claude API. For the first time the discount applies across every product surface, covering direct purchases now and purchases through cloud providers in the coming months.

Eligibility is wider than before. According to Unite.AI, citing GSA, it covers federal buyers in the executive, legislative and judicial branches as well as state, local and tribal governments, and Anthropic's own announcement also names territorial governments. GSA described the pricing as a 40% discount on token-based usage across all Claude models available to the government, including FedRAMP-authorized environments. There are no minimum orders, and agencies pay only for what they use. Anthropic estimates the discounts will save the government $1 billion.

Anthropic said about 500 US federal, state and local organizations now use Claude, that weekly Claude for Government active users are up about eightfold since February, and that usage across federal civilian agencies has grown about 20-fold in a year. Its examples include Utah giving Claude Code to 34 developers across 10 agencies, where 80% had a working environment within 30 minutes and 71% reported saving 20 or more hours in a four-week pilot. Those are Anthropic's figures, not independent measurements.

On security, Anthropic says Claude for Government reached general availability on September 30 at a FedRAMP High authorization level. Claude on Amazon Bedrock is authorized for FedRAMP High, with select models authorized for DoD IL4 and IL5 in AWS GovCloud, and Claude on Google Cloud's Vertex AI is authorized for FedRAMP High. Claude Enterprise is in process for FedRAMP Moderate through the FedRAMP 20x program.

The deal succeeds the original August 2025 OneGov offer, which gave federal agencies Claude for a nominal $1 and which GSA's page listed as expiring on October 31, 2026. GSA said it will renew agreements where appropriate as OneGov offers expire. Firstpost and Crypto Briefing frame the expansion as arriving despite a dispute between Anthropic and the Pentagon, though we did not read details of that dispute.

For developers building for the public sector, a 40% discount that also applies through cloud marketplaces lowers the cost of prototyping on Claude without a large upfront commitment. Anthropic also says it will launch a dedicated program in the coming weeks to help agencies implement Claude. If you sell to government, check whether your buyers can purchase through GSA's Multiple Award Schedule at the OneGov rate.
