At its Oracle AI World event in Las Vegas on October 27, Oracle announced an expanded collaboration with OpenAI that puts OpenAI models, ChatGPT and Codex inside Oracle's business applications. The centerpiece is Oracle AI Workspace, which uses plugins in ChatGPT so employees can access information, complete approved business workflows and take action alongside Oracle systems. Oracle says it is designed to connect Oracle Fusion Applications, NetSuite, Oracle AI Database, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and other enterprise tools.
Oracle says governance stays in its own systems. In its press release, the company says the workspace maintains the governance, approvals and controls that enterprise operations require. SiliconANGLE quotes an Oracle product marketing director describing a customer order put at risk by a supplier delay, where Workspace could keep the goal while coordinating applications, agents, data and tools to fix it.
Three other products came with it. Oracle App Composer lets employees build applications with Codex without needing coding expertise, while Oracle manages deployment and operations on OCI, including OCI Kubernetes Engine and Oracle Autonomous AI Database, and applies identity, permission, audit and life cycle controls. It also supports APEXlang, a new Oracle technology meant to avoid opaque generated code. Oracle AI Security Mesh is a managed service using OpenAI cyber models to find and fix vulnerabilities across OCI, other clouds and on-premises environments.
For small businesses, Oracle AI SMB Bundle is described as free to start and includes $12,000 in Oracle cloud credits each year. It combines ChatGPT Business, Oracle AI Workspace, Codex, App Composer, OCI and NetSuite QuickStart. Oracle notes that terms, conditions and restrictions apply. Oracle CEO Clay Magouyrk and OpenAI's Greg Brockman both framed it as bringing frontier AI into tools companies already use.
On the same day Oracle and Snowflake said Snowflake AI Data Cloud will become a first-party OCI service, though Snowflake's own post described it as planned, not yet available. BeInCrypto noted that the keynote skipped the financing questions investors keep asking about the Oracle and OpenAI relationship.
For developers, the takeaway is that enterprise software vendors are making their apps callable from ChatGPT through plugins, and offering Codex as the builder for internal tools. If you build integrations for Oracle customers, watch for documentation on the AI Workspace plugins and App Composer. Oracle's own release carries a disclaimer that product direction and timing may change, so confirm availability before planning around any of it.
