Authorization notice. Reelmimic is dual-use. Only use it on software, sites and systems you own or have explicit permission to test.

Credentials. Runs through your own Claude Code or Codex account, so usage counts toward that account and any limit hit pauses the job.

Who it is forA content creator or small team that wants a new video matching the editing rhythm, colors and framing of a reference they admire.

The problemRecreating a specific video style by hand takes long editing sessions and careful study of shot lengths, transitions and camera moves.

The outcomeA new 2D animated video in the same style, built from an approved plan and reviewed shot by shot, with a production log and review screenshots.

What you need first

  • Node.js 22.18+
  • Python 3.10+
  • FFmpeg
  • Chrome
  • Claude Code or Codex CLI, installed and logged in
  • Rights to the reference video and to any output you publish

Steps

  1. Clone the repo with git clone https://github.com/edenfunf/reelmimic.git && cd reelmimic.
  2. Run ./install.sh on macOS or Linux, or double-click install.bat on Windows, then run ./start.sh or start.bat.
  3. Open the web address shown in the terminal, drop in your reference video or paste a link, describe what you want, and pick Claude Code or Codex.
  4. Read the breakdown and the plan, chat in the side panel to request changes, then click Approve and start.
  5. Watch the Production line tab, and when the video is done, scrub to any second and leave a note on anything that looks off.

Prompt for your agent

In the reelmimic repo, start the local web app, submit <reference video path or link> with the brief <one-line brief>, and approve the plan once it appears. Expected output: a finished video in the project folder with a final review result. Verify that the Production line tab shows every shot passed review before you report success.

Caveat. A 30 to 60 second video usually takes 1 to 3.5 hours after plan approval, and it is tested mostly on Windows.
