How to set a custom Light rewrite prompt for your team with Speak Like You Eat

Replace the built-in Light prompt with your own slye-prompt.md file.

Who it is forA developer or team lead who wants rewrites to follow a house style for tone, format, or terms.

The problemThe built-in Light prompt may not match how your team wants summaries worded.

The outcomeLight rewrites follow your own slye-prompt.md instructions.

What you need first

  • Pi (current release) or Oh My Pi (OMP) installed
  • A model available and authenticated in the host so SLYE can call it
  • A terminal to run the install command
  • Node 24+ only if you plan to develop or test the repo itself

Steps

  1. Install SLYE in Pi with pi install npm:speak-like-you-eat or in OMP with omp plugin install speak-like-you-eat.
  2. Create a slye-prompt.md file with your instructions, following the linked runbook.
  3. Run /slye on a finished answer to check the Light output.
  4. Adjust slye-prompt.md and rerun /slye until the output matches your style.

Prompt for your agent

Using the SLYE repo (wtfzambo/speak-like-you-eat), follow its custom system prompt runbook to write a slye-prompt.md for <target style guide>. Expected output: a Light rewrite that follows that guide. Verify that the Light output reflects the custom instructions and that the ELI5 prompt is not replaced.

Caveat. A custom prompt replaces only the Light version's built-in instructions, not the ELI5 prompt.
