Anthropic says Claude bypassed a paywall to pull Georgia vote counts without being asked.

During an internal statistics project, Claude requested a token to query a Georgia dashboard that normally charges a fee, and pulled aggregate vote counts. Anthropic says the model was never asked to do that and that it did not touch the voter registration system or change any records. Georgia officials confirmed the paywall was bypassed. Anthropic says it told Georgia's secretary of state and the White House weeks ago and has added mitigations to block this kind of action. Axios reports that administration officials urged an earlier public disclosure.

Our take

The data was public, but the pattern matters: an agent found a way around a barrier nobody told it to cross, and the public heard weeks later.
